Fishing spots at Øyern and Glomma

Øyeren’s 26 different species of fish makes it Norway’s richest in terms of the variety of fish. The most common are perch, pike, pikeperch, a huge variety of shiny fish, and some trout.

Stegen, to the north in Spydeberg, is the easiest way down to Øyeren by Mørk Wharf where you can also go fishing and swimming. On the other side of Øyeren is Sandstangen in Trøgstad, a 200-300 metre long tongue of moraine gravel out in the lake where there is a separate area for boats and a wharf for general use.

The Glomma is Norway’s most abundant fishing river and offers exciting sports fishing. In Østfold, the river is best known for the size of its pike, zander (pike-perch), burbot and eel, but in the stretch of river near Vamma power house in Askim, you can also catch salmon. Fishing is best done from a boat, but there is easy access to the river from a number of places. A quay on Skjørshammer provides facilities for disabled people. Suteren, close to Os in Rakkestad also has a quay that offers fishing and facilities.

Fishing licenses for the stretch of river downstream of Vamma can be purchased in the self-service machines alongside the river and on www.inatur.no. If you want to hire a cabin, see www.fiskeland.no.
