The history of Halden

Halden and fortress has played an important role in Norwegian history

1600 -The factory of Saubrugs along the riverside of Tista and the timber exports form the basis for the establishment of a seaport Halden. Wood and paper industry still has a great importance to Halden.
1658 - Treaty of Roskilde. Bohuslän submitted to Sweden and Halden are Denmark-Norway border gateway to Sweden.
1658-1660 - The Swedes attack Halden and fortress three times without success.
1660 - 28 July 1660 signing of King Frederik III decided to build a fortress in Halden, which bear the name Fredriksten Fortress.
1661-1701 - The first construction period of the fortress.
