Glass blowing and outlet store at the same place - Glasshytta

At the very entrance of Gamlebyen you will find Glasshytta, the Glass hut.  It has been here since 1958 and you can buy unique glass artefacts and learn how to blow glass yourself.

Glasshytta is Norway’s first studio-glass hut and has housed many well known glass blowers, like Richard Duborg and Benny Motzfeldt. It all started in 1958 as a part of PLUS in Gamlebyen, but is today owned and run by glass blower Abel Sawe.

This year Sawe can celebrate 30 years of glass blowing in the charming brick hut. He designs and blows wine glasses, vases and bowls for local sale, galleries and exhibitions amongst other things. Sawe also produces for companies wanting a special gift for their employees or for business.

For long periods of the year you will find Glasshytta full of activity. During the summer holidays and on Sundays during Advent, children and adults can blow their own glass globes. It is also possible to book a one hour glass blowing session or a two-day course.

Glasshytta is perfectly located in beautiful surroundings.  With the drawbridge right outside, the rampart and the bird life and the gate leading in to Gamlebyen, it´s a perfect place for recreation.
